How to buy e-train-tickets?



  1. Registration
    Certain domestic tickets can be purchased online as e-train-tickets. Registered users do not have to make a new registration to use this service.

  2. Invoicing data
    Electronic invoice is issued of purchases of e-train-tickets. Invoicing data must be preliminarily recorded. For more information about invoicing, please study the Invoicing guide.


  3. Conditions of purchase and use of e-train-tickets
    • The e-train-tickets are personalised, non-transferable tickets valid for a defined route.
    • The e-train-ticket is valid between the time-frame indicated on the ticket. The e-train-ticket can be used within its validity period for the indicated journey on any eligible train - i.e. it must be clearly identified, that surcharge has been paid, when travelling on a train with obligatory surcharge.
    • An ongoing journey can be completed after the expiration of the e-train-ticket, if the passenger boards a direct train to the destination of the ticket within the validity of the ticket.
    • Seat reservation and TELEVONAT ticket are valid only on the date and train specified on the ticket.
    • E-train-ticket with train-bound discount is valid only on the date and train specified on the ticket.
  4. Journey and route selection
    • Please note, that a surcharge with seat reservation will be valid for the selected train only, so check whether you have selected the desired services.
    • The selected journey for an e-train-ticket may contain maximum 4 trains, i.e. changing trains allowed 3 times. It does not affect the usability of the ticket.

  5. Ticket selection
    Please select the type of your ticket (e.g. ticket only), mark that you request a one-way ticket, select discount (e.g. full fare) and travel class (e.g. 2nd class).
    • Pass and international tickets cannot be purchased as e-train-ticket.
    • Return ticket cannot be bought as e-train-ticket. Please buy the e-train-ticket for your outward and return journey in two transactions.
    Tickets available as e-train-ticket marked by a red star before the discount, and the red text colour of the discount. Passes and Event round-trip tickets are not available as e-train-ticket.

    If it is not possible to buy e-train-ticket for the journey, then a red lettered text on the top of the page will call your attention to this fact. Clicking on the Details you can see why e-train-ticket is not available (probable causes: train, ticket type, type of journey or discount is not supported). Please enter your invoicing data in time!

    After the entry of the required data, you can add your ticket to the basket by clicking Add ticket to the basket. If you choose e-train-ticket, you can purchase ticket for only one journey in one transaction, but for this journey you can buy several tickets.

    If optional seat reservation is possible on the selected train (or on one of the selected trains), the system asks if you would like to purchase a seat reservation for that train before adding the first ticket to the basket. The choice is applied to all tickets purchased for the selected journey. Only the remaining free seats can be occupied if you do not purchase a seat reservation.

    The data of your journey can be reviewed on the right side of the screen by clicking on Journey details. If there are tickets in the basket, the data of the tickets (e.g. discount, pieces, price) can be reviewed by clicking on Ticket details. The last ticket put in the basket can be deleted by clicking on Remove last items. If you would like to delete any other ticket from the basket, you have to delete the complete basket, by clicking on Empty basket after clicking on Ticket details. If the selected train does not suit you, please delete your basket as written before, then plan your journey again by clicking on New journey.



  6. Select how to receive the tickets added to the basket
    For purchasing e-train-tickets please choose E-train-ticket (default). Then click E-train-ticket DATA ENTRY , and your tickets added to the basket will appear.



  7. Personalisation of e-train-tickets
    If the data of the journey and the service are right, please fill in the names and dates of birth of the passengers. If you give your consent to store the entered data, they can be selected from the roll-down list at later purchases. The e-train-ticket entitles the person named on it only to travel. Please enter the name and date of birth of the passenger (not the buyer). In case of bicycle or pet ticket, the name and date of birth of the passenger carries the bicycle or pet must be entered. It is important that together with your eligibility for the discount you shall always present your personal identification as well, so please always enter the data properly, in accordance with your personal identification document.

    Tickets and surcharges (i.e. supplementary tickets and/or seat reservations) are grouped by passengers. In case of bicycle or pet ticket you can select, the bicycle or pet is carried by one of the passengers appearing on the screen, or by an other person (who already has a ticket or other eligibility for travel).

    If you do not want to give your data, or if you are not sure, which train you take, click Back to return to the last page, and select Ticket collection from ticket vending machine.

    If you would like to travel with e-train-ticket, but not on the displayed train, click on Back to return to the previous page, empty your basket, then click on New journey to plan jour journey again. Please do not use the navigation buttons of your browser to return to previous pages.



  8. Correction during purchase: Please make sure, that your basket always contains the right tickets throughout the purchase process. The price of the already paid tickets can only be refunded in accordance with the Terms & Conditions of MÁV-START.
    During ticket selection the last ticket put in the basket can be deleted by clicking on Remove last items. If you would like to delete any other ticket from the basket, you have to delete the complete basket, by clicking on Empty basket after clicking on Ticket details. If the selected train does not suit you, please delete your basket as written before, then plan your journey again by clicking on New journey.
    After completing ticket selection, the basket cannot be modified. To delete the contents of basket, you have to sign out by clicking on Sign-out on the right side of the screen. The contents of the basket can be reviewed before payment. At this point, the basket cannot be modified, if the way of ticket collection or the basket contents are not correct, you have to sign out by clicking on Sign-out on the right side of the screen to delete the complete basket. Please do not use the navigation buttons of your browser to step back to previous pages.
    Before authorising the payment on the payment page of OTP Bank, please verify that the displayed sum equals the price of the purchased tickets. If you find any differences, please cancel payment, and after you are redirected back to the e-Ticket system, sign-out. Then start your purchase again by signing in.
    Previously recorded invoicing data can be modified by clicking Invoicing data. It is not possible to change name and/or type of recipient of an existing entry; in this case you have to create a new entry. If there is any error in the recipient's data on a received invoice, please contact our Client Service. Please do not forget to correct your recorded data as well.

  9. Payment page, invoice data

    After the personalisation of the tickets click on Verify e-train-ticket data to continue. Please check all the data, and click on Back if you have to correct any data. Please do not use the navigation buttons of your browser. By clicking Pay you can select the invoicing data on the payment page in the regular way, and initiate payment afterwards.

    When purchasing a railway pass or certain discounted tickets, you have to provide the No. of the document that is linked to the pass/ticket and/or necessary to be eligible for the discount, according to the table below:

    The provided No. of the document is printed on the ticket. At the time of travel the document must be presented.

    You can review your booking one more time on the payment page. At this point, the basket cannot be modified, if the basket contents are not correct, you have to sign out by clicking on Sign-out on the right side of the screen to delete the complete basket.     Electronic invoice must be selected for e-train-tickets. That is why the recording of the proper invoicing data is a precondition of e-train-ticket purchase with bank card.   10. Downloading and using e-train ticket



    After successful payment you will be redirected back to the e-Ticket system, and you will be able download your purchased e-train-tickets. You can also download your e-train-tickets by clicking on the link in the confirmation e-mail, then entering your sign-in data on the form.

    Click Download e-train-ticket to display and save your tickets.

    The e-train-ticket can be presented at ticket inspection:
    • On the display of portable computer, mobile phone or other suitable device if the device is able to display the QR code in at least 160×160 pixel size. It is your task and responsibility to ensure, that your device operates properly at the time of inspection.
    • Printed on white A/4 paper sheets in the original size in good quality. Partially printed, damaged, stained or unreadable tickets are invalid.
    Tickets entitle the named person exclusively to travel within the specified time interval and on the specified route. Seat reservation is valid only on the train specified on the ticket. Personal identity and the entitlement for discount fares shall be proven when the ticket is asked for inspection.


    You will find your tickets later under Previous purchases if you click Details in the line of the given purchase, and in accordance with the above description (using the(Download e-train-ticket button) you can print them later as well.

    E-train-tickets cannot be collected from ticket vending machines. It is your task and responsibility to download the ticket before your journey, and to print the downloaded ticket in good quality, or to be able to show your ticket on your device at inspection. Recommended browser to download the ticket: latest version of Internet Explorer or FireFox; recommended software to open and print the ticket: latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader.

  11. Refund

    When initiating a refund, the tickets saved (and printed) before the refund request (including the tickets not to be refunded) of that purchase are not valid for travelling. Please save again the remaining tickets before your journey, and use the new version for travelling.

    The e-train-tickets can only be refunded online, no later than 1 hour before the validity of the ticket begins.
    Supplementary tickets/Seat reservations (surcharges) bought together in one process (for the same train and class) are handled together. If you do not want to refund all the tickets bought together (e.g. one of your party cannot travel with you), please select the tickets of the not-travelling passengers. When you start the refund process, the system cancels all reservations, and then reserves the necessary number of seats again automatically. You may be assigned to seats different from the originally reserved ones due to this process. Also the originally purchased and downloaded tickets become invalid; you have to download the new tickets for the remaining travellers.
    The price of the e-train-tickets to be refunded is transferred to the bank account linked to the bank card used for the purchase by the railway company, 7 days after the validity of the ticket to be refunded has expired. An administration fee of 10% of the price of the ticket will be applied.
